Increasing Productivity With iGoogle
In the Official Google Reader Blog today there was an interesting post that mentioned that Michael Bolin had created 'Your Page Here', a gadget for iGoogle that allows you to embed the Google Reader, Calendar or just about any web page on its own tab in iGoogle.
This seemed like a pretty nifty idea to me so I thought I would give it a whirl, and it seems to work very well. You can only have six tabs on the iGoogle homepage (though there is a hack . . .) so if you are already at maximum you may have to have a bit of a sort out, you can't really have anything else running in the same tab.
I now have my Google Reader and Calendar along with Docs and Spreadsheets running in their own tabs, as well as a tab with this blog in it which allows me to run this site without ever leaving iGoogle.
There were a few problems getting Gmail to work in its own tab, but that may just have been me, feel free to give it a whirl yourself and let me know how you got on.
With the Remember The Milk now working offline via the Google Gears application I thought I would see how well that worked too, so I added that into a tab as well and it synchronizes fine when you go back online.
All in all I think that the addition of Michael Bolin's'Your Page Here' gadget will go a long way to helping me be more productive, especially if I can work out how to get Gmail to work!
What uses do you think you can make of it? Do you think this will increase your productivity? Let me know in the comments.
In additional news, this week it seems that Google has increased the amount of tabs available in your iGoogle homepage, and, as a work-around for adding e-mail in its own tab, you can add GMail in Basic HTML mode. If you go into your GMail account and look near the bottom you will see a link for Basic HTML. Click it and when the page has reloaded copy that URL and use it in ‘Your Page Here’.
Thanks to tpettyrox for that tip (no URL supplied).

Get gmail to work by going to the bottom of your gmail page and clicking “basic html mode”. Then copy the url in your browser to use it in the tabbed views.
Yeah, that is a good work-around, I mentioned it in the first comment here but I will update the article as well, once the “Lifehacker’s” quiet down.
I like to use IGoogle cause on my job I´m supposed to don´t read Gmail, so i use Igoogle and check my email.
I love Google

haha thanks for that tip prestamos, I’m gonna give that a try today. I need gmail, but is blocked at work.
What a great idea
II had not come across this product – but sure can appreciate its work and use
I will search across this blog to look for other good tips and tidbits
I tried using the ‘Your Page Here’ gadget with Gmail and Google Docs, but it doesn’t seem to work–it just goes straight to Gmail or Google Docs without staying at iGoogle. Is there a way to fix this?
To get the gMail page to work go to the bottom of your normal gMail page and click “basic html mode”, then copy the new url in your browser to use it in the tabbed views. Google Docs is more complicated in that every time you start a new doc it will open in a new page anyway. For an alternative try http://zoho.com/ , I found it a better fit.
Thanks! What about Google Health?
I think that should work fine, never used it myownself, if you find you have a problem let me know and I will try and find a work-around.
I prefer to use Flock browser to organize my services.
