Sunday, November 26th, 2006I guess the question I need to ask myself is, “Am I going to host this blog myself?â€.Short answer being “Yes†but the reality being that I can’t to afford to do this at the moment. Is there a vast difference in hosting this here “on-site†and hosting it myself? I guess the best way to find out will be to head out around the web and visit a few off-site pages and see what you guys are up to.If anyone comes across this blog and wants to give some advice my cyber-thanks is already heading your way.
Moving Home
Sunday, November 26th, 2006 So I did it. I made a choice and found a new home for my blog. I went with afmu in the end. The expense wasn't too great, the learning curve was perhaps the hardest part as I tried to find out about transferring files and finding a free up-loader that was within my capabilities. So here I am, with no spell checker! I tried to install two different plug-ins, one that I couldn't get to work in any way shape or form and one that seems to be incompatible with the version of Wordpress that I have installed. I guess the easiest thing for me to do would be to test out my posts in "Outlook" first, that should help me avoid too many calamities, but I will have to give that a try another time, else it will make this post a little redundant in the main! I was a little dissapointed that there was no way to import my blogs from the freebie version, at least no way that I could find, but a quick bit of "copy and paste" sorted that out. Anyways, I managed to install Wordpress on my server, and I managed to find the same theme that I had previously and get that set up too, not bad work for one weekend. Well, not for me anyways.
Beginnings.
Sunday, November 26th, 2006(These first few posts are transferred from my freebie Wordpress, please bear with me)
So my Mother, like all Mothers, likes to give advice. Some good, some not so. The advice “Better to be silent and thought an idiot than speak and prove it†undoubtedly falls in to the category of “goodâ€, but like all her other advice I am going to ignore it anyway.
Blogs seem to be very popular in this day and age, so much so that some seem to be able to make a living at it. Not me, mind! I earn my living by manual labour. I don’t say this to in anyway denigrate those that can make a living through their intellect, just pointing out that if you stumble across this weblog, please don’t expect too much from it. Hopefully I will use this service a little more than I have some of my previous attempts, maybe getting the hang of some of the more interesting features. At least this one has a spellchecker, saving me from too much embarrassment.I only started using a computer about two years ago and still tend to “peck†at the keyboard rather than type, so maybe having this set up will encourage me to make a bit more of an effort to improve my skills.
Anyways, I am now off to check out some of the features around here, hopefully I will get back to you again this side of new year.
