Fancy A Guinness?

Monday, February 19th, 2007 Marmite Guinness Marmite and Guinness? Either a match made in heaven or your taste buds ultimate nightmare! Marmite is a yeast extract that Wikipedia describes thus:
Marmite is a British savoury spread made from yeast extract, a by-product of beer brewing. It is a sticky, dark brown paste with a distinctive, powerful taste that polarises consumer opinion. This is reflected in the company's marketing slogan: you either "love it or hate it".
When I saw the article in my Google reader from BoingBoing about this I just had to click through to find out some more about it. ;-) Now this may not be to everyone's taste, but I must admit to a little tingle of excitement and anticipation at the sight of this Limited Edition marmite variant. Sure, they are acquired tastes, but ones well worth cultivating. Shame that it is only a limited edition. Thanks to Cool Hunting and The Sunday Times (sorry, I couldn't locate the original article).

“Free” music online

Saturday, February 17th, 2007 One of the articles I read over at "BoingBoing" this week talked about an interesting music site called SeeqPod that searches the net for you to find music you want to listen to and plays it via their own player on the site, in effect letting you set up your own "playlist" radio station on their website. No sign-up is necessary to use their service but you can join up as well, though I could not see anywhere a description of the benefits of doing so, though I would suspect they would involve being able to save your playlist's to use at anytime from any computer. I managed to find a nice selection of music from "The White Stripes" and a "Haircut 100" tune too, very quickly found and played without hardly any loading time. If you are of a musical bent you can also submit your own music hosted on your site for others to find, yet another way of getting your sounds out there.

A Guide To Blogging

Friday, February 16th, 2007 Looking for a definitive guide to blogging? Then you could do worse than check out "The Definitive Guide To Blogging", a post that has been put up over at Sponsored Reviews. The list is pretty useful and as far as I can tell is not a sponsored review as such, just a very helpful list for all blogger's starting out and for those who may want to join their programme of paid reviews. Seems like a very savvy move to me, go check it out. Is there anything you would like to add to their lists?

Frustration!

Monday, February 12th, 2007 I have my new computer nearly all set up the way I like it, installation of all my favourite programmes is just about complete, but one thing that seems to not be working is the creation of a back up disc. There is almost always no installation disc provided these days with new computers, but usually there is a disc provided in case of crashes that involve re-installation. Not in this case. What there is is a programme that runs every time I restart my computer and reminds me that I need to create one of my own. Then it asks you to run the programme and get it done. Great! Except every time I get as far as burning it to a DVD it rejects all my discs as being full, which is not the case. They ones I am using are blank and just fresh out of their wrappers. Anyone know of a good work-around? :-( *Update: the programme let me write to CD, so I ended up using 3 of them instead*

Gorram Computer

Saturday, February 3rd, 2007 As I mentioned a couple of days ago, I have been a bad blogger of late. One of the main reasons for this is that the "new" second hand computer that I got for myself has gone kaput. Meaning that basically I broke it. And I don't know quite how. This has led to me having to resurrect/rebuild my "older" second hand computer and install a few of those programs that I had come to rely on in my newer machine. So basically my being missing wasn't voluntary. The main trouble I have with this old machine is the slowness of it, even opening up the Windows LiveWriter program can take up to two minutes, and it's even worse with something like Photoshop Elements. Sometimes the "click" hasn't registered and so I try and open it again, sometimes I think this is the problem only to click again and end up with two instances of the same program trying to open which eventually leads to a crash. Gorram it. Which just goes to show just how essential a reliable computer is, so I guess at some point soon I will have to dig deep and splash the cash for a brand new machine with a bit of power behind it. And at a not too terrifying price. Anyone got any suggestions?

Blogging Challenge

Thursday, February 1st, 2007 I realized today just how much I have been neglecting my own blog. I seem to be spending most of my time using Google Reader or wading through my e-mails, most of which are Google Alerts. Now I am not saying that these aren't great tools, because they really are. I never get through a day without finding a couple of interesting items that I would like to blog about. I Fleck the articles and make a quick note of my first impressions, but then I seem to stall. So for this coming month of February I will try and blog everyday. Yes, 28 articles of my very own. Hopefully this will help me to improve my blogging habits, do a bit of analysis to try and work out where I am wasting my time and maybe even improve my typing and writing skills. It's always good to challenge yourself.

WordPress upgrade 2.0.7

Wednesday, January 17th, 2007 I have only been using WordPress for a little while and already this is the second upgrade I have had to do, but as these are for security issues they must be addressed. A useful way to get these upgrades done can be found over at Mark Jaquith's blog where he provides a download that just contains the necessary files for each upgrade rather than the full .zip with the entire WP install that WordPress provide. Mark has been providing this service throughout the WP 2.0 series, let's hope he continue as we head into WP 2.1 in the near future. Thanks Mark.

Spiderman 3

Friday, January 12th, 2007 One of the films I am most looking forward to this summer is Spidey 3, and I know that there are quite a lot of folks out there quite excited to find out about the villain Venom, but until now the studios have been keeping the look of this enemy pretty much under wraps. So take a look at this: Image Hosted by ImageShack.usIt seems that the toy company with rights to the project, Medicom Toy Corporation, have released some shots of their Venom figure. I suspect there may be a few angry phone calls/e-mails over this one. Original source from EMPIREonline.
